TAFFETA [ ON TAFFETA: A BRIEF LOOK AT THE WORLD'S MOST SOUGHT-AFTER FABRIC.]
All taffeta is silk, but not all silk is taffeta. To fully embrace the richness of taffeta it’s important to understand that the name itself has two Persian meanings. The first meaning is “twisted woven.” The importance of this is to note that unlike other silks, the construction of taffeta is energetic and alive and can have a great deal of natural variation. This variation only adds to the complexity and charm of the fabric. The second, less known definition means, “to shine.” Taffeta, more so than any other silk, has a radiant quality even when very little light is present. It’s a silk that exudes a vibrancy all its own. It’s for this reason alone that taffeta is not only one of the most expensive fabrics in the world, but it’s also one of the most coveted by haut-couture designers. Taffeta is known for being extremely thin and extremely crisp. For pocket square styling, it’s the perfect hybrid of two mentalities. On one hand it has a similar, strict crispness that it shares with finely pressed Belgian linen. But on the other hand, it still has the panache and flair of its traditional silk counterparts. Taffeta can easily be styled into a tight and clean TV-fold, or ruffled into a shape that resembles the delicate petals of a rose. It’s for these reasons that we are in love with taffeta. IT'S A SILKTHAT EXUDESA VIBRANCYALL ITS OWN.
